How We Fact-Check

Here is exactly how a Golden Shovel article is made.

1. Sources come from a fixed list

Our system starts from a list of trusted sources: established mining news outlets, company news releases, and official bodies such as regulators, governments and central banks. We review the list regularly.

We don't use precious-metals dealer blogs, sites that reprint other outlets' stories, stock-promotion pages or sponsored content as sources.

2. Drafts are written with AI tools

AI tools draft each article from its source material. The draft has to explain the news in plain language and add context the source doesn't spell out, such as how a figure compares with company guidance, with peers or with metal prices, and what to watch next.

3. Every article is checked before it's published

Each article is AI-drafted from cited sources and checked against those sources by an AI editor before publishing. Drafts don't publish automatically: each one waits in a review queue until the AI editor approves it, and drafts that fail are fixed or dropped. The founder also reads every article we publish, and any fixes go through our Corrections policy.

The review checks that:

  • Each fact must appear in a cited source. That covers every number, date, name and quote. Anything that doesn't is cut.
  • Market figures need two sources. Share-price moves and similar figures must be confirmed by a second source. If they can't be, they're removed.
  • Quotes are used exactly as published, and credited to the person and the outlet.
  • No hype. Headlines must match the story. We never promise returns or say anything is "guaranteed."
  • No copying. Articles are written in our own words. We link to the original story instead of reproducing it.

4. Sources are shown inline

Claims link directly to the story, release or filing they came from, so you can check them yourself.

5. Mistakes get corrected in the open

If we get something wrong, we fix it and note the change on the article. See our Corrections policy, or report an error on our Contact page.

What we are not
